Most OpenStack developers have powerful workstations with quad-core processors and significant RAM. Even these workstations, however, are often times not sufficient to create complete multi-node OpenStack environments to develop and test their individual projects. Running the OpenStack Smart Lab environments in public clouds like AWS or Google Cloud with Ravello takes away this resources constraint for a low price.
To illustrate the cost of an OpenStack Smart Lab, consider a 4 node OpenStack development environment that consists of:
Ravello’s prices are based on the aggregate resources of the application. For this multi-node OpenStack environment: 2+2+2*2 = 8 vCPU, 4+4+2*8 = 24GB RAM and 50+50+2*100 = 300GB storage.
The hourly compute price of the application running in Ravello is $0.82. The hourly price for volume storage is $0.10, for a total hourly application price of $0.92. There is an additional $0.12/GB/month library cost. For the described application above it will be up to monthly $36 in library cost (if all 300GB storage provisioned is used).
